Please join Bishop Amy Current and the Office of the Bishop in welcoming Jackie (Pepin) Baumhover as the Southeastern Iowa Synod's new Associate to the Bishop for Candidacy, Events, and Governance. Jackie begins her ministry with us on July 6, 2026.
From July through September 2025, the Southeastern Iowa Synod welcomed Israel Mockray from the Mwanga Diocese, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. Throughout his time with us, Israel immersed himself in the vibrant life of our synod through EWALU Bible Camp and congregational visits. As Israel has now returned home safely, we invited him to reflect on his recent visit.

Bishop Amy Current has joined bishops from across the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) in sharing a collective pastoral letter to the church. Together, these voices call the church to unity, compassion, and faithful engagement in a world that deeply needs God’s healing presence.
The Synod Council met on Saturday, September 13, at the Synod Center for Ministry in Iowa City.
Bishop Amy Current was nominated to participate in the election for presiding bishop and had the opportunity to address the voting members and guests of the assembly.
This was a deeply meaningful and impactful experience for Bishop Current. She has written a personal reflection to share with the people of the Southeastern Iowa Synod who continue to pray and walk alongside her in ministry.
