Believing that all persons are created in the image of God, and embracing each person as a beloved child of God, the Southeastern Iowa Synod strives to be fully inclusive for all. This synod encourages the full welcome and inclusion of LGBTQIA+ people so that they may participate fully in the life and work of the church.

    Extraordinary Lutheran Ministries organizes queer seminarians and rostered ministers, confronts barriers and systemic oppression, and activates queer ideas and movements within the Lutheran Church.

    Human Sexuality: Gift and Trust

    The statement of the ELCA provides guidance on key matters, such as marriage, family, same-gender relationships, protection of children and youth, sexuality and the self, sexual intimacy and cohabitation. It addresses issues of sexuality in the public square, the work place and within the church. This social statement was adopted by the 2009 ELCA Churchwide Assembly.
