Summary
Following a resolution passed at the 2024 Synod Assembly, below is a compilation of resources and materials on gun-related violence and trauma.
RESOLVED that the 2024 Southeastern Iowa Synod in Assembly commend to all rostered
ministers, congregations, and synod-authorized worshiping communities all ELCA-related
education materials referenced in Bishop Current’s letter from January 19, 2024 entitled,
Reflection from Bishop Current on Perry Mass Shooting and Gun Violence, and the ELCA social
message, Gun-related Violence and Trauma, in order to strengthen efforts to promote gun
safety and promote sensible gun control, especially for the sake of children.

Gun Violence Prevention: A Social Policy Resolution, Gun Violence Prevention, was adopted by the Churchwide Assembly in August 2016.
ELCA social message on Gun-related Violence and Trauma was adopted unanimously by the Church Council on behalf of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America on April 13, 2024.
