What is the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity?
With more than 100 years of history, the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity involves Christian communities throughout the world. It is traditionally celebrated during the week of January 18-25, between the commemorations of St. Peter and St. Paul. A group of ecumenical partners in a particular region (Armenia this year) develop a liturgy on a biblical theme, which is then prayed throughout the world as a visible sign of the church’s unity. The text is published jointly by the Vatican and the World Council of Churches.
You can learn more and download the 2026 prayer and Bible study materials on the World Council of Churches website. If you have questions about organizing a celebration in your local community, feel free to contact Pr. Chris Olkiewicz at revchris@whlc.og.
