September 2010: An Evening with the Bishop

Dear Friends in Christ,

I hope you will join me for an evening of conversation and fellowship. I look forward to sharing thoughts that go to the heart of what it means to be the people of God in mission together through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and the Southeastern Iowa Synod, in particular. I will do my best to respond to topics or questions you may bring with you.

Four congregations across the synod will host these events in September. You are invited to attend the location most convenient to you. It is my hope that lay leaders as well as pastors and other rostered leaders will be able to participate.

Book of Faith Travel Seminars

Opportunities to encounter scripture by traveling to the lands where the Word first dwelled so we might be renewed, enlivened and empowered as the people of God. As a community we will engage in God’s word with one another; memorial stones become living stones and God’s stories become our stories. The Book of Faith Travel Seminars will journey to Turkey, The Holy Land, and Germany

EPIC Matching Grant Program

EPIC (Educational Partnerships in Covenant) is a matching grant program that began in 1983 as a cooperative venture between Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) congregations in Iowa and their colleges: Grand View, Luther, and Wartburg. ELCA colleges and universities exist in mission to prepare young people for life lived faithfully in service to God and the world. EPIC is a means of encouraging congregations to financially support their students who attend one of the three Iowa colleges.

Building for the Future
