Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Des Moines is a small, moderate income membership, neighborhood church with an average attendance of a little over 250 per week at our four weekly services. Though small, we accomplish above and beyond our budget each year because we care and desire to do what we believe our Lord, Jesus Christ wants us to do—care for others. For he said, "As you did it to the least of these, my brethren, you did it to me". This desire is demonstrated in feeding our neighbors both near and far.
Lutheran Campus Ministry students Rebekah Dotzel, Erinn Uhlmeyer, and Megan Henson traveled with Pastor Rob Dotzel to Managua, Nicaragua for Spring Break, March 13-21. There they joined a mission group hosted by the Women and Community Association of Nicaragua and United Methodist Missionaries, Nan McCurdy and Miguel Mairena. The group of 14 Lutherans and Methodists spent their days talking with various people who work in ministries of health, education, labor, power, water, and resource development, to learn how Nicaraguans are fairing since the 2006 election of Sandinista President Daniel Ortega.

Des Moines, Iowa – On Monday, March 1, nearly 100 supporters of Lutheran Services in Iowa (LSI) descended on the State Capitol in Des Moines to advocate for the children, families and individuals the statewide social service agency serves. In a year when advocacy is more important than ever, this presence brought visibility and a voice to the issues that directly affect the work of LSI.

Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary defines the word ardor as a “depth of feeling” synonymous with words such as “passion,” “enthusiasm,” and “eagerness.” Every Sunday morning at 11:00 a.m., the members of All Saints Lutheran Church in Davenport worship not only with deep sense of ardor for God but with Ardor: the congregation’s contemporary worship band.
