The Book of Faith Initiative and You

On May 20, the Ankeny Forum will present The Book of Faith Initiative and You. The 2007 Churchwide Assembly approved the Book of Faith Initiative to renew the ELCA in its calling as a church of the Bible, to improve our fluency in scripture, and so that scripture will more fully form our individual and ecclesial lives. Diane Jacobson, professor of Old Testament at Luther Seminary and director of the Initiative, will help us better understand the reasons for this initiative and how we might participate in it. The forum will be held at Resurrection Lutheran in Ankeny from 9 a.m. to Noon. Registration and contact information can be viewed at www.renewingchurch.org.
 

Women of the ELCA Bible Study Seminar

The Hidden Hand of God, a Women of the ELCA Bible Study Seminar at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa on May 21-22, 2008. This annual seminar is designed to provide an in-depth introduction to the September through May study for the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

 

Concordia Bible Institute

From June 7 - 11, Concordia Bible Institute and Wisconsin Lakeshore Lutherhostel will host "Holy, Wholly, Healthy in Spirit, Mind, and Body" on the lakeshore campus of Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon, Wisconsin (15 miles north of downtown Milwaukee). The Association of Lutheran Older Adults, sponsors Lutherhostel events at various sites to foster opportunities for unique intellectual, social, and spiritual growth. LYO Assembly 2008

LYO Assembly will be June 7, 2008 at Grandview College in Des Moines. Registration is from 9:00-9:30 am and the fee is $10 which includes lunch. This year’s LYO theme is “Follow the Leader”. The verse is Psalm 32:8, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with my eye.”

 

Religious Freedom Then and Now

Lutherhostel presents William Penn’s Holy Experiment: Religious Freedom Then and Now from June 16-20 in Philadelphia, PA. Join Bread for the World and thousands of people of faith, June 14-17, 2008, who will gather to hear motivating speakers, mobilize faith communities, and visit your representative's and senator's offices to speak out for the voiceless.
 

Get to Know the Alpha Program

Are you familiar with the Alpha Program?  Several Lutheran congregations in the synod have been using it.  For one congregation, the sessions have only just begun to attract people from outside the current membership and the program has been the source of a new spirit in the congregation.  For more information, go to the Alpha website at www.alphana.org.
