Mutual-Benefit

The Mutual Benefit Appeal: How Your Congregation Might Participate

20/20 Vision

The 2005 Synod Assembly adopted a resolution to reaffirm its commitment to the 20/20 Vision and to seek to broaden the synod's participation in the vision of providing resources for the development 20 new ministries over the first 20 years of this new millennium.

The Mutual Benefit

After prayerful consideration, some congregations Appeal (MBA) and many individuals have offered contributions directly to the 20/20 Vision Fund.

However, now congregations are invited to expand and strengthen ministries at the local level and at the same time be in partnership with the 20/20 Vision. To encourage this initiative at the local level, consultation and resource development assistance would be offered by the synod through The James Company, a Christian fundraising group, to partner with congregations through the Mutual Benefit Appeal. Congregations would be asked to dedicate a portion of funds raised locally to 20/20 Vision and the Synod Mission Fund. The percentage of funds would be five percent of new money from a general stewardship program over three years. For a capital campaign, the commitment would be ten percent of money received over three years.

How The Partnership Works

The Synod would provide development assistanceat no charge to congregations through The James Company. Assistance would include:

  • Capital Campaign Direction - assistance to address your capital needs
  • Annual Stewardship Direction - support and guidance for enhancing your current stewardship program
  • Planned Giving Direction - guidance to develop your resources through bequests or life income gifts
  • In partnership together, at both the congregational synodical level we can discover and harvest resources to better share the Good News of God's love.
