Social Statement on Education
A first draft of this social statement, "Our Calling in Education," is now available for congregations and members to study, discuss, and offer their comments to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) Task Force on Education. Your comments will help the ELCA Task Force on Education to shape the eventual social statement.
ELCA social statements are theological and teaching documents meant to assist members in their consideration of important social issues. They also set policy for our church and guide its advocacy. They result from an extensive process of deliberation throughout our church, and they are adopted by a two-thirds vote of a churchwide assembly. Comments to the first draft of the social statement need to be sent by October 15, 2006.
You may download a copy at the task force's website or you may order a single free copy by calling the Church in Society resource request line at (800) 638-3522, ext. 2996. You may order multiple copies through Augsburg Fortress by calling (800) 328-4648. You may also download a Spanish translation at the task force's website or by calling the Church in Society resource request line at (800) 638-3522, ext. 2996.
