The Holy Land Communion Ware Journey
Each of the ELCA synods received a set of communion ware at the 2005 Churchwide Assembly, launching the new campaign "Peace Not Walls - Stand for Justice in the Holy Land." The communion ware, crafted in Bethlehem, will travel from congregation to congregation and to the 2007 Synod Assembly at Augustana College in Rock Island, IL.The goal of the Communion Ware Journey is to give all ELCA congregations the opportunity to:
- Use these vessels in Holy Communion as a reminder of and a witness to our partnership in mission with our brothers and sisters in the Holy Land;
- Learn about and pray for Palestinian Christians and their Muslim and Jewish neighbors; and
- Learn how to advocate for peace with justice in Israel and Palestine.
The communion ware will be traveling from conference to conference every month for the next year. If you would like to host the communion ware on a specific date, simply call Cheryl Hollich, synod coordinator, at 563-263-5074. The synod coordinator will try to accommodate such requests. Information and resources are also available for the holy land communion ware worship, education and advocacy.
